Wizkid wraps Afro Plus Fest with 15-year set
Wizkid Closes Afro Plus Fest as Fans Celebrate 15 Years in Music
Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid brought the 2026 Afro Plus Fest to a close with a headline performance in Maryland, United States, as fans celebrated 15 years since his breakthrough in the music industry.
The singer, whose real name is Ayodeji Balogun, performed on Sunday, September 6, at the Northwest Stadium Complex in Landover, Maryland. His set featured popular songs including Essence, Ojuelegba, Caro, Daddy Yo and Bad to Me, giving fans a taste of different stages of his musical journey. <escape></escape>
The performance was a major moment for the singer, who first rose to prominence in 2011 with Holla at Your Boy, from his debut album, Superstar. Fifteen years later, Wizkid has grown into one of Africa’s most recognised music stars, helping take Afrobeats to audiences around the world.
His career includes international collaborations, a Grammy Award for his contribution to Beyoncé’s Brown Skin Girl, and the global success of Essence, featuring Tems. The anniversary therefore represented more than longevity; it highlighted how far Nigerian music has travelled internationally.
Fans also had reason to celebrate the occasion beyond the music. Social media posts and festival updates provided a platform for supporters to share clips, favourite moments and reactions to the performance. In this case specific online reactions could not be independently verified, so individual comments should not be presented as confirmed fan responses.
The festival, which ran from September 4 to 6, featured a mix of African, Caribbean and American performers, including Davido, Tems, Ayra Starr, Olamide and Tiwa Savage. Its expanded three-day format brought together music and culture from across the diaspora.
Wizkid’s closing performance ultimately connected a personal career milestone with a wider celebration of African music, showing how an artist’s journey can bring fans together across continents.
