The excitement surrounding Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, and its ninth National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) title is extending beyond the competition stage. The school’s historic achievement is being celebrated with music, thanksgiving and a traditional bonfire night featuring some of Ghana’s popular gospel musicians.

The celebration, known as the 2026 Ɔdadeɛ Torch & Bonfire Night, brought together the school’s old students and supporters to honour another remarkable achievement in the history of PRESEC.

Joe Mettle to Headline the Celebration

Gospel musician Joe Mettle was announced as the headline performer for the event, which was scheduled for Friday, October 30, 2026, at 6pm at the PRESEC School Park in Legon, Accra.

The programme, dubbed the ADO9 Edition, also featured performances from Team Eternity Ghana and Daughters of Glorious Jesus.

Organisers planned a night of gospel music, praise, worship and thanksgiving, alongside the school's traditional torchlight procession and bonfire lighting.

The event provided an opportunity for former students, known as Ɔdadeɛ, to reconnect, celebrate their school's achievement and share in the excitement of the latest NSMQ victory.

Why the NSMQ Title Matters

PRESEC’s ninth championship is particularly significant because it extends the school’s record as the most successful institution in the history of the National Science and Maths Quiz.

The school secured the title on September 10, 2026, after defeating Accra Academy and St Augustine’s College in a competitive grand finale. PRESEC finished with 40 points, while Accra Academy scored 33 and St Augustine’s College managed 27.

The victory was also a comeback moment for the school, which had experienced consecutive quarter-final exits in 2024 and 2025.

With nine championships, PRESEC has further strengthened its reputation in Ghana’s academic competition, giving students, former students and supporters another reason to celebrate.

School Pride Becomes a Public Celebration

The PRESEC NSMQ 2026 victory demonstrates how academic competitions can create excitement that goes beyond classrooms and examination halls.

For many former students, the achievement represents years of school memories, friendships and shared identity. The Ɔdadeɛ celebration brings these connections together through music, cultural traditions and thanksgiving.

Having Joe Mettle PRESEC as the headline attraction also gives the celebration a strong gospel atmosphere, allowing supporters to express their gratitude through praise and worship.

The bonfire tradition, torchlight procession and musical performances turn an academic achievement into a memorable community gathering.

The event has become another memorable Ghana school celebration, bringing together students, alumni and supporters to share in PRESEC's historic achievement.

Ultimately, the celebration is about more than winning another trophy. It is about recognising excellence, strengthening school unity and giving generations of PRESEC students a shared moment of pride.
