Dangote Cement grows profit by 31%

Dangote Cement Plc has recorded a major increase in its earnings, with profit after tax rising by 31.2 per cent in the first nine months of 2026. The strong performance reflects improved sales, higher revenue and better financial management by the company.
According to a report published by Premium Times on October 30, 2026, the cement manufacturer recorded a profit of ₦974.8 billion between January and September 2026, compared with ₦743.3 billion during the same period in 2025.
The company also recorded a 19.6 per cent increase in revenue, which climbed to approximately ₦3.8 trillion, showing stronger business activity compared with the previous year.
## What is driving the growth?
One major factor behind the improved performance is the increase in cement and clinker sales. Total sales volumes grew by 9.4 per cent to 22.1 million tonnes during the nine-month period.
Nigeria remained the company's biggest market, contributing about 70.8 per cent of its total revenue. Its Nigerian operations generated approximately ₦2.67 trillion, supported by increased domestic sales. The company's operations in other African countries also contributed to the growth, with sales volumes improving across several markets.
Another factor was improved cost management. Although transportation and distribution expenses increased, the company benefited from lower financing costs and improved production efficiency. These developments helped strengthen its overall profitability.
## What this means for Nigeria's economy
Dangote Cement's performance is an important development in Nigeria business news because the cement industry plays a major role in construction, housing and infrastructure development.Increased cement sales may indicate continued demand from building projects, road construction, housing developments and other infrastructure activities. Stronger production can also support employment opportunities, transportation businesses, distributors and other suppliers connected to the cement industry.
The company's improved earnings could also contribute to government revenue through taxes and support investment in local manufacturing.
However, higher company profits do not automatically mean cheaper cement for ordinary Nigerians. The cost of building materials, transportation, electricity and other essential inputs remains important. Consumers will be watching whether increased production and efficiency can eventually help make cement more affordable.Overall, the latest Dangote Cement profit figures show that Nigeria's manufacturing sector still has opportunities for growth despite economic challenges. The company's performance also highlights the importance of local production, investment and efficient business management in strengthening the country's economy.
As Nigeria continues to pursue economic growth, the performance of major manufacturers such as Dangote Cement will remain an important indicator for investors, businesses and consumers.
