Tiwa Savage says yes to Teni’s boxing challenge

Tiwa Savage has responded to fellow Nigerian singer Teni’s public boxing challenge with a short reply that has got fans imagining an unusual showdown between two Afrobeats stars.

Teni, whose real name is Teniola Apata, issued the challenge in a video shared on social media on October 2. While discussing entertainers’ earnings and expensive cars, she called on Tiwa to face her in a boxing match and joked about the money that could make the fight worthwhile.

“Mama, make we fight,” Teni said, suggesting a potential purse of ₦1.5 billion and asking whether the amount could buy her a Bugatti. She also joked that she would sing Tiwa’s song “My Darling” for her after defeating her.

The challenge came with a playful caption in which Teni promised to apologise outside the boxing ring after the proposed fight.

Tiwa’s response gets people talking

Tiwa Savage did not ignore the call-out. The singer responded in the comment section with three words: “Pick a date.”

That brief response added another layer to the exchange, leaving fans to wonder whether the banter could eventually turn into an actual contest. However, neither singer has announced a confirmed date, venue, promoter or formal agreement for a fight.

For now, the Tiwa boxing challenge remains a social media exchange rather than a scheduled boxing event. Teni’s mention of a billion-naira purse was part of her challenge and has not been confirmed as an agreed payment.

The exchange arrives amid growing interest in celebrity boxing Nigeria, where entertainers and public figures are taking their rivalries beyond social media and into organised events.

On October 1, former Big Brother Naija winner Phyna faced actress Nkechi Blessing in Lagos as part of the Chaos in the Ring series. Phyna won the bout, adding to the attention surrounding celebrity fights in the country.

Other entertainers, including Portable, Carter Efe, Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington, have also featured in celebrity boxing events. These matchups attract attention because they combine familiar personalities, competitive spectacle and the possibility of seeing public banter play out in a different setting.

For fans, the appeal is not only about who might win. The personalities involved, their online exchanges and the entertainment surrounding the event can be just as important as the fight itself.

Will Tiwa and Teni enter the ring?

The idea of seeing Tiwa Savage and Teni face each other has created a fresh talking point among music fans. Their playful exchange offers a different kind of celebrity matchup, bringing two well-known female Afrobeats stars into a conversation usually dominated by music and performances.

Still, Tiwa’s “Pick a date” response should not be mistaken for confirmation that a fight has been arranged. Until the singers or an organiser announce official details, the proposed bout remains an entertaining possibility.

For now, fans will have to wait and see whether Teni follows up on her challenge with an actual date—or whether the whole thing stays as playful celebrity banter.
