Spotify Launches Audiobooks in Nigeria, Offering Over 350,000 Titles

Spotify has officially launched its audiobook service in Nigeria, giving listeners access to more than 350,000 audiobook titles from October 14, 2026. The announcement marks a new development for Nigeria’s digital entertainment and publishing industries as the company expands beyond music and podcasts.

According to "BusinessDay" (https://businessday.ng/technology/article/spotify-brings-350000-audiobooks-to-nigeria-targets-new-listening-habits/), the launch allows Nigerian users to listen to books directly through the Spotify platform, making it easier to enjoy stories, educational materials and other publications without reading printed pages.

What the New Service Offers

The audiobook service allows users to listen to books while travelling, walking, relaxing at home or carrying out everyday activities. This gives people another way to enjoy books, especially those who have busy schedules and limited time for traditional reading.

Spotify Free and Premium users in Nigeria can access the service through an additional subscription called Audiobooks+. The plan costs ₦2,300 monthly and provides 15 hours of listening. Users who need more time can purchase an additional 10 hours for ₦2,700 or buy individual audiobook titles.

Other features include offline listening, a sleep timer and tools that help users continue listening from where they stopped.

Why This Matters to Nigerian Users

The launch could change how Nigerians access books and educational content. Instead of carrying physical books everywhere, listeners can use their phones to enjoy audiobooks while commuting or performing other daily tasks.

It may also benefit students and people interested in learning new skills, developing their vocabulary or discovering new ideas. However, the cost of subscriptions and internet access could influence how many Nigerians adopt the service.

Opportunities for Nigerian Authors

Spotify’s expansion also creates a new opportunity for Nigerian writers and publishers. Through Spotify for Authors, local publishers and independent writers can upload audiobooks and reach audiences in more than 180 markets.

This could help Nigerian authors introduce their work to international listeners without relying entirely on traditional bookstores.

However, the number of locally produced titles, production costs and potential earnings will influence how much authors benefit.
