Portable has another Nigerian celebrity in his boxing sights, and this time it is veteran singer Terry G.

The controversial “Zazoo Zeh” singer publicly challenged Terry G to a celebrity boxing match during an appearance on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds, with clips of his comments generating reactions online.

Portable did not simply say he wanted a fight. In typical Portable fashion, he added a provocative reason for choosing his senior colleague.

“I want to fight Terry G,” Portable said during the interview.

He then claimed that facing him in the boxing ring would help put Terry G back in the spotlight, saying: “If Terry G fights me, one-on-one in boxing, he will rise again. People will remember him again.”

That comment has given the Portable Terry G conversation an extra dose of social media drama.

Who is Terry G?

For younger readers who may not remember his peak years, Terry G, whose real name is Gabriel Oche Amanyi, was one of the most recognisable personalities in Nigerian street-pop during the late 2000s and early 2010s.

Known for his energetic performances, eccentric style and trademark bell, Terry G built a reputation as one of Nigerian music’s original “crazy” performers.

Songs including “Free Madness,” “Run Mad” and “Akpako” helped turn him into a major name during that era.

That history makes Portable’s challenge particularly interesting.

The two musicians come from different generations, but fans have repeatedly compared their unpredictable public personas and energetic performance styles. Terry G himself pushed back against those comparisons in 2025, arguing that comparing him with Portable was disrespectful to his musical legacy.

Now Portable wants to settle things somewhere completely different, inside a boxing ring.

Fans react to Portable’s boxing challenge

Social media reactions to the call-out have mixed amusement with curiosity over what an actual Terry G versus Portable fight might look like.

Some fans treated Portable’s comments as another example of his ability to turn almost any statement into entertainment, while others debated whether Terry G should even respond to the challenge.

One reaction quoted by Legit.ng simply described Portable as an “entertainer,” while other commenters joked about the unexpected choice of opponent.

For now, however, this remains a celebrity boxing challenge, not a confirmed fight.

There has been no verified announcement of a Portable-versus-Terry G event, and Terry G had not publicly accepted the challenge in the reports reviewed.

Portable is no stranger to celebrity boxing

The call-out is not completely random.

Portable has become one of the most visible faces of Nigeria’s growing celebrity-boxing trend.

He defeated actor Charles Okocha in their first fight in December 2023 and later beat Speed Darlington by technical knockout in April 2025. His winning run ended when Carter Efe defeated him by unanimous decision in May 2026.

Portable told Rubbin’ Minds that he still wanted another fight with Carter Efe.

Celebrity boxing itself has become increasingly visible in Nigerian entertainment, with public arguments and online rivalries sometimes moving from social media to organised fight nights.

That helps explain why Portable calling out Terry G immediately feels like more than random Nigerian social media gist.

There is already an audience for entertainers putting on boxing gloves and settling their challenges in front of paying fans.

Whether Terry G ever joins Portable in the ring is another matter.

Until he says yes and an organiser announces a real bout, fans will have to make do with Portable’s challenge and imagine the chaos that could follow if the “Free Madness” star actually accepts.
