Nigerian music fans have fresh additions for their playlists as BNXN, Blaqbonez, Asake and Lojay lead some of the notable recent releases getting attention.
From smooth Afrobeats to a high-energy collaboration, the latest New Music Friday Nigeria conversation offers different sounds for listeners heading into the weekend.
Blaqbonez has one of the biggest releases in the mix with “IKEBE 3000,” featuring Asake, while BNXN is keeping listeners busy with his Still In Charge EP. Lojay has also returned with “Money Lingo,” adding another release to a run that has kept him visible in the Afrobeats scene.
Blaqbonez and Asake link up on “IKEBE 3000”
Blaqbonez recruited Asake for “IKEBE 3000,” a dance-ready Afrobeats track serving as a lead single ahead of Blaqbonez's NOMADINHO: 4TH PRIME album.
The collaboration immediately stands out because both artists are already familiar names to Nigerian music fans.
Blaqbonez has built a reputation for combining rap with humour, internet-savvy promotion and pop influences, while Asake has become one of Afrobeats' most recognisable stars.
NotJustOk currently lists “IKEBE 3000” among its Best New Music selections, showing that the collaboration is continuing to hold attention beyond its initial release.
BNXN says he is “Still In Charge”
BNXN is also part of the conversation with his six-track EP Still In Charge.
The project includes collaborations with Asake and FOLA, while “If You Like” closes the EP with the relaxed, melodic sound listeners have come to expect from BNXN.
The BNXN new song conversation is helped by his already established fan base. Songs such as “Pidgin & English” and his collaborations with other major Afrobeats stars have made his distinctive vocals easy to recognise.
Still In Charge was released on October 1 and remains on NotJustOk's current Best New Music list.
Lojay brings “Money Lingo”
Lojay takes a different route with “Money Lingo.”
The upbeat Afro-fusion record combines his smooth vocals with conversational Pidgin and energetic percussion. Lojay is already well known to many fans through records including “Monalisa” with Sarz and international collaborations.
DJ Tunez and Terry Apala also add something different to the recent releases with “Apala Groove,” blending contemporary production with Terry Apala's distinctive Yoruba vocal style.
Fans have plenty to discuss
Early music conversation around the releases has largely centred on the artists' different sounds and collaborations.
The Blaqbonez-Asake pairing has attracted particular interest because of the two stars involved, while BNXN's fans have been discussing Still In Charge and picking favourites from the six-track project.
For listeners, that variety is what keeps New Music Friday Nigeria interesting. One release can deliver an established star collaboration, while another introduces a different fusion of Afrobeats, rap or indigenous sounds.
And with Blaqbonez's next project around the corner, the Blaqbonez new release is doing more than providing another song for weekend playlists — it is also setting up his next musical chapter.
Whether listeners are choosing “IKEBE 3000,” “If You Like,” “Money Lingo” or “Apala Groove,” Nigerian music fans have several fresh records to argue about, replay and add to their weekend rotation.
