Access Bank Reshuffles Leadership to Boost African Growth and Digital Innovation
Access Bank Plc has announced changes to its executive leadership as part of its plans to improve business performance, strengthen its African operations and expand digital banking services.
The bank appointed Oluseyi Kumapayi as Deputy Managing Director, African Subsidiaries, while Olanrewaju Bamisebi was appointed Executive Director, Information Technology and Digitalisation. The appointments took effect on October 27 and October 28, 2026, respectively, following approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Kumapayi was promoted from his former position as Executive Director, African Subsidiaries. He has more than 25 years of banking experience and joined Access Bank in 2002. He previously served as the bank's Group Chief Financial Officer from 2007 to 2020 before taking responsibility for its African subsidiaries in November 2020.
Bamisebi joined the board of Access Bank from Access Holdings, where he previously served as Executive Director, Information Technology and Digitalisation. He has more than 20 years of experience in technology transformation, digital banking and enterprise systems. His new responsibilities include improving the bank's technology platforms, strengthening cybersecurity and introducing digital solutions that will make banking easier for customers.
According to the bank's leadership, the changes are part of a wider plan to move from simply expanding its operations to making its existing businesses more profitable and efficient.
Access Holdings Chairman, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, explained that the organisation wants to achieve stronger financial performance, better efficiency and greater value for shareholders. He also noted that the new appointments would help improve the performance of African subsidiaries and bring technology leadership closer to the bank's daily operations.
Access Bank's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Roosevelt Ogbonna, also stated that the bank would focus on improving productivity, profitability and efficiency. The organisation plans to simplify its technology systems, improve service reliability, encourage innovation and provide better customer experiences at lower costs.
Leadership changes are important in every business because they bring new ideas, experience and responsibilities into an organisation. Experienced leaders can help employees work towards common goals, solve problems and make better decisions. In the banking industry, good leadership is especially important because customers depend on reliable services, secure transactions and efficient technology.
The appointments could also strengthen Access Bank's position in the African banking industry by improving its operations across different countries. However, the success of the changes will depend on how well the new executives carry out their responsibilities and achieve the bank's targets.
In conclusion, Access Bank's leadership reshuffle represents an important step towards improving profitability, strengthening African operations and developing better digital banking services. If successfully implemented, the changes could create benefits for the bank, its customers, employees and shareholders.
